The only thing that upsets me with Altiverb is that they have not come out with a Windows version of it yet. It works like a charm and gives you the professional reverb that you need to separate you from the rest of the pack. The Altiverb 7 is one of my favorite reverb plug-ins for Mac OS. Most of the reverbs are great as is (presets) but feel free to tweak them if you want to change some things up. I love how you can use the visual browsing option to get the reverb that you want, or you can just type in the search box to find the style of reverb you want. You can pick the type of room you want the reverb to replicate. You can really dig deep into the reverb process with the Altiverb 7. I hardly ever use it on vocals I mainly just use it on instruments and sometimes some background vocals. Using the Altiverb 7 has allowed me to get that eerie and ambient reverb that I love using. The manual is in PDF format and it is easy to use if you need it. Setting up the Audio Ease Altiverb 7 takes no time at all, as soon as you install it you can begin to use it right away. The Altiverb 7 does require you to have iLok. After you complete the check out you will get a link in your email to download the Altiverb 7. The Altiverb 7 is easy to install, it is available for download as soon as you complete the check out. I do wish this was for all platforms because it is really good and they should release an update making it available for PC users. It will only work on Mac computers (which I think does not make it appealing). You can create beautiful, flickering soundscapes with that. The Audio Ease Altiverb 7 is a reverb plug in that cost 529 dollars. Once activated, it holds tiny snippets of reverbed audio in Crystalline’s buffer. Tip: If you are looking to use Crystalline for sound design, take a close look at “Freeze”. Also, that shimmer knob makes Crystalline sparkle. In addition, a dedicated “ gate” parameter quickly turns Crystalline into the gated reverb machine that you need for that eighties snare sound. Not only that, but it also boasts innovative features like synchronized pre-delay and decay times. Just shy of one month old and already on a list! Baby Audio Crystalline is one of the best-sounding reverb plug-ins. There are a number of free and commercial plug-ins for convolution reverb with Audioease Altiverb 7 or EastWest Spaces II being among the most popular ones. With a procedure called “de-convolve” the raw, reverb-less clap or sine sweep is then removed from the recording. To put it into simple terms, IRs are created by recording a single loud clap or a sine sweep in the room you want to use as a reverb, basically as an acoustic imprint of the room. These powerful plug-ins with many gigabytes of libraries attached to them create the reverb effect based on so-called impulse responses (IRs). Reverb was just too complicated to create artificially. Both excelled at their job so much that you can hear them in practically every big album production of the late eighties and early nineties.Īs close as algorithmic reverbs came to the real thing, they never really fooled anyone. These two rack effects created the reverb effect based on internal algorithms. The two most famous examples are Lexicon 480L and Bricasti M7. Since not everyone has the opportunity to record in a church or arena, digital algorithmic reverbs, long before any plug-in solution, have been the choice to create a big hall sound. And then there are the churches, stadiums, and arenas you find in the hall category with decay times of fifteen seconds or even more! What is the difference between algorithmic and convolution? Here you can find room sizes with decay times that are a bit longer, like ball rooms or bigger recording rooms. In some plug-ins you can also find a dedicated chamber category. Then there are a number of different room reverbs which can create a small room impression, like a recording booth or a bath room with short decay times. Especially since the resurgence of the canny eighties drum sound in many of today’s productions, plate reverbs with their metallic sound quality have been increasingly popular. For instance, spring reverbs, aptly named because the reverberation is created by running an audio signal through an actual spring, are often found in guitar amps. There are a variety of reverb categories. One reverb is not the same as the next one in music production. Algorithmic reverb plug-ins: A short history in reverb
